McIntosh SEED has created opportunities for low-wealth people to build assets and transform economic condition in low-wealth communities. McIntosh SEED serves as the anchor for the Coastal African American Action Network (CAAAN), which is a collective group of 12 heritage and cultural tourism groups. The group shares knowledge of governance, advancement, and the preservation of African American heritage, culture, and tourism.
The collective group implements marketing and economic development strategies in order to generate more income for low-wealth people. The group also laid the groundwork for policy development and land preservation strategies. CAAAN members work together to assure “our story” will be preserved for years to come and future generation will know the strides, struggles, richness and pride of the Gullah-Geechee culture.
